Elena has a BA in Fine Art from Accademia di Belle Arti Brera in Milan, an MA in Sculpture from Bretton Hall College, Leeds University and a PhD in Fine Art from University of the Arts, Central Saint Martins College, London (CSM). Cologni was Post Doctorate Research Fellow at CSM. She is interested in the experiences of the unstable nature of perception and memorisation of reality through time. Her work is distinctively situated and participatory, interrogating on the nature of memory, the archive, remoteness, heritage, personal histories, and the city. Her residency at the Centre for Contemporary art Glasgow focused on memory as archival and removable to enhance the experience of who we are in any given moment. The exchange with others is a core element in her practice. Her ongoing interdisciplinary project ROCKFLUID investigates how the delicate relationship between memory, presentness and place impact the construction of our identity. Elena would like to discuss a collaboration on spatial memory, social cognition.

Laura is an artist who draws her own body from the inside out, tuning in to sensory and kinesthetic perceptions and finding beauty in a curving spine. Her layered figures evoke the body’s connections to the processes and patterns of nature. Grounded in anatomical reality, they are based on her work with dance anatomy and movement practice, and on 3D radiology scans made for the purpose of art. Laura brings her artist’s perspective to the NYU School of Medicine as Artist in Residence in the Master Scholars Program in Humanistic Medicine. Her latest work focuses on the brain, spinal cord and nerves: pathways for movement, sensation, and consciousness the feeling of being in one’s body. Laura would like to connect with anatomists doing detailed dissections of nerves or nerve plexuses, and with artists or scientists interested in the neurobiology of proprioception and body awareness.

systems, photography, biology
Dana Hemes constructs system-based, visual experiments with human and nonhuman participants to explore interspecies dialogues. Drawing from process philosophy, technoculture and non-anthropocentric sciences, she creates functioning, complex systems to examine how interspecies interactions change the role of the human and the meaning of communication and art. Born in 1986, she grew up in Lafayette, LA. She holds an MFA in Studio Arts from Montclair State University and a BFA from NYU in Photography and Imaging and Studio Arts. She has been artist-in-residence at Whitecliffe College in New Zealand, with the School of Making Thinking and the Wassaic Project in New York, with the Holes in the Wall Collective in Pennsylvania and with the Marble House Project in Vermont. She has exhibited at Whitecliffe College, Cardiff School of Art and Design in Wales, and at MagnanMetz and Pioneer Works in New York. She has lectured at the School of Visual Arts and at MSU, and lives and works in New York.
She is hoping to expand her network of artists working with living organisms. She also hopes to connect with programmers (particularly those who work with sensory technologies), entomologists and biologists.

time, process, kinetics, scientific method, experience
Christina scavenges, collects, researches and fabricates to create her site based work. Her work is performative and driven by a love of scientific methodology, process and craft. She reads the world as pattern and experience it as time code, reading and misreading pattern and symbol as sensory narratives. She structures her projects by detecting time based systems of rhythmic, using the repetitive patterns as guides. She is fascinated by the metaphors used to describe the flow of time; the spun thread, burning candle and punch clock all combine a personal sensory perception of the passage of time. Time is measured in so many unconscious and intimate ways; counting and graphing the hours and days.Christina is interested in collaborating on projects related to natural history, anatomy, genetics, insects, sound, and light.

Craig A. Lund
neuroscience, neuroaesthetics, visual processing, subconscious, drawing, illustration
Craig's images relate to the spontaneity of “action painting”, the surrealists' explorations of the subconscious, discoveries in neuroscience about the structure of our visual system and the processing of visual information, and real life experiences surrounding an awareness of the sensations of “peripheral visual reflex responses”. Craig's process is based on the understanding that visual information from each half of the visual field is initially processed by a single and opposite hemisphere of the brain. He uses a combination of litho-crayons, graphite, and a variety of black pigment pencils on paper to create his images.
