Week 10: Montse & Jo

Montse

This week Jo and I have been bouncing ideas back and forth about the exhibition/workshop at Kettering University.

The list of the items under consideration is:
  • Exhibition, workshop, or both. Jo and I have been contemplating three different possibilities: having an exhibition, a workshop, or a mixture of exhibition and workshop. The exhibition would consist of showing art pieces that would be displayed on campus. The display could be all across campus or only at the Art Center. If we choose to do a workshop, it would consist of some kind of activity that links art and science, and it will allow the participants to explore and create something. We have a couple of ideas for this. For example: make cyanotypes (see previous blogs for details) and here; look at objects under the microscope and take pictures; make paints using tea (see previous blogs for details). Other options include activities published by the American Chemical Society.
  • Location: I went around campus and took pictures of various locations that could be used to do exhibitions or workshops. Below are the pictures of locations that might be used for expositions or workshops. The photographs shown include classrooms, laboratories and open spaces that could be suitable for this project.
  • Target: We are trying to decide if we want to target specific classes (Organic Chemistry Lab, General Chemistry Lab, and others), or if we want this to be available for all students on campus.
  • Budget: We are beginning to look at the cost of the artwork and the consumables for the workshop activities.

Jo and I would appreciate any input that anyone might have, and we would love to hear others’ ideas or experiences organizing a Sci-Art exhibit/workshop.
